How Traditions Read This Prophecy

Apostolic (Oneness) Pentecostal'His name shall endure for ever... and men shall be blessed in him: all nations shall call him blessed.' The everlasting name in whom all nations are blessed is the name of Jesus — the name above every name (Phil. 2:9-11), the only name given for salvation (Acts 4:12). The Abrahamic promise that all nations be blessed (Gen. 22:18) and the kingly name of Psalm 72 meet in the one Lord Jesus.
JewishA prayer for the king's enduring name and the blessing of the nations through his reign; the ideal of universal, lasting kingship.
CatholicThe everlasting name and universal blessing fulfilled in Christ, in whom all nations are blessed (Gen. 22:18).
ProtestantThe enduring name in whom the nations are blessed is Christ's (Acts 4:12; Phil. 2:9-11), fulfilling the Abrahamic and royal hope.
AcademicA royal psalm; the language of an eternal name and worldwide blessing idealizes the Davidic king, read messianically in later tradition.
