How Traditions Read This Prophecy
Apostolic (Oneness) PentecostalGod will gather the lame and outcast into 'a strong nation: and the LORD shall reign over them in mount Zion from henceforth, even for ever.' The kingdom comes to the former 'tower of the flock,' and the LORD reigns. That everlasting reign in Zion is the kingdom of the Lord Jesus, of which there shall be no end (Luke 1:33; Rev. 11:15). The God who gathers the outcast and reigns is God revealed in Christ.
JewishGod gathering the lame remnant into a strong nation and reigning as king in Zion forever; the restoration of the 'tower of the flock' (Migdal Eder).
CatholicThe LORD's everlasting reign in Zion, fulfilled in Christ the King; the gathering of the weak and outcast.
ProtestantThe everlasting reign of God in Zion fulfilled in Christ (Luke 1:33); the gathering of the remnant.
AcademicA restoration oracle; 'tower of the flock' (Migdal Eder, cf. Gen. 35:21) has drawn messianic-birthplace speculation.
