How Traditions Read This Prophecy
Apostolic (Oneness) Pentecostal'The Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name.' The Spirit comes in the name of Jesus — for the Spirit is the Spirit of Jesus, the one God indwelling. The Father sends, the Son is the Name, the Spirit is the presence: one God in self-revelation, not three Persons. The Spirit teaches and recalls Christ's words because He is Christ present.
JewishNot part of Jewish tradition; rooted in the Hebrew expectation of God's Spirit teaching His people (Isa. 54:13; Neh. 9:20).
CatholicThe Spirit, sent in the Son's name, is the Church's interior teacher who recalls and unfolds Christ's words (cf. the Catechism); a Trinitarian sending text.
ProtestantThe Spirit's ministry of teaching and reminding guarantees the apostolic witness; sent by the Father in Christ's name.
