Long before the New Testament, the Hebrew Scriptures described the coming Messiah in remarkable detail — his lineage, his birthplace, his manner of life, his rejection, his death, and his resurrection. Written before the events
This is not hindsight dressed up as prophecy. The Dead Sea Scrolls (c. 250 BC–AD 68) preserve Isaiah, the Psalms, Daniel, and the Minor Prophets — the Great Isaiah Scroll alone predates Jesus by over a century and contains Isaiah 7:14 and Isaiah 53 as we know them. The portrait was fixed in writing before the One it describes appeared.
The honest note
Counting "how many" Messianic prophecies exist depends on definitions — popular figures of 300+ are looser tallies; J. Barton Payne's careful catalog lists 127 personal prophecies of the Messiah. Some texts are read differently in Jewish tradition, and those readings deserve a fair hearing. What is not in dispute is that a detailed, written expectation existed centuries early — and that the New Testament claims Jesus fulfilled it.
Who the Messiah is
The prophets describe not merely a hero but God with us — "The mighty God, The everlasting Father" (Isaiah 9:6). The Apostolic (Oneness) Pentecostal reading confesses the one true God revealed in the man Christ Jesus. The response He asks is the gospel the apostles preached: repent, be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ, and receive the Holy Ghost (Acts 2:38).
