How Traditions Read This Prophecy
Apostolic (Oneness) Pentecostal'In that day there shall be a fountain opened... for sin and for uncleanness.' That fountain is opened in the pierced side of the Lord Jesus (John 19:34) — the blood that cleanses from all sin (1 John 1:7). God Himself, in Christ, opened the cleansing fountain; it is applied in repentance and baptism in His name for the remission of sins (Acts 2:38).
JewishA promise of national cleansing and the purging of idolatry and false prophecy 'in that day'; the fountain symbolizes God's forgiveness of a repentant Israel.
CatholicThe fountain for sin is read of the blood and water from Christ's side (John 19:34) and the cleansing of baptism; the purifying of God's people.
