How Traditions Read This Prophecy
Apostolic (Oneness) Pentecostal'Let thy hand be upon the man of thy right hand, upon the son of man whom thou madest strong for thyself.' The Man at God's right hand, the strengthened Son of man, is the Lord Jesus, exalted to the right hand of God (Mark 16:19; Heb. 1:3). Israel's prayer for deliverance is answered in the one God's own right-hand Man — Christ.
JewishA plea for the restoration of Israel — 'the son of man' / 'the man of thy right hand' read of Israel or the king whom God strengthens to deliver the vine, Israel.
CatholicThe 'man of thy right hand' read of Christ at God's right hand, the true Vine and Son of man who restores His people.
ProtestantA messianic reading via the exaltation language — the Son of man at God's right hand is Jesus (Heb. 1:3); the restoration of God's vine through Him.
AcademicA communal lament; 'the man of thy right hand' and 'son of man' likely denote Israel or the Davidic king, language later read messianically.
