How Traditions Read This Prophecy
Apostolic (Oneness) PentecostalPsalm 45 is a royal wedding song the NT reads of the Messiah ('Thy throne, O God,' v. 6 = Heb. 1:8). The King 'fairer than the children of men,' grace poured into His lips, is Jesus — the Word made flesh, 'full of grace and truth' (John 1:14), at whose 'gracious words' they wondered (Luke 4:22). He is the image of the invisible God (Col. 1:15): God Himself in human grace.
JewishA royal nuptial ode for the Davidic king's wedding, praising his beauty and eloquence; some traditions allow a messianic application.
CatholicMessianic and nuptial — the Bridegroom-King is Christ, the bride the Church; v. 2 extols His grace and beauty.
