1:32He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David:
1:33And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.
1:34Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?
1:35And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.

How Traditions Read This Prophecy
Apostolic (Oneness) PentecostalThe angel reveals the incarnation: the Holy Ghost comes upon Mary and the power of the Highest overshadows her, so 'that holy thing... shall be called the Son of God.' The Son is begotten in the womb — God Himself, the one Spirit, taking flesh ('God with us,' Matt. 1:23). His name JESUS ('Jehovah is salvation') declares it: the one God come to save. He receives 'the throne of his father David' and reigns for ever — Deity and the Davidic King in one.
JewishThe promise of a Davidic king reigning over the house of Jacob for ever resonates with messianic hope, though the virginal conception and divine sonship are not received in Jewish tradition.
CatholicThe Annunciation — the virginal conception by the Holy Spirit and the divine motherhood of Mary (Theotokos); the Son of God incarnate (cf. the Catechism).
ProtestantThe virgin birth and the deity and Davidic kingship of Jesus; conceived by the Holy Spirit, He is the Son of God and the promised King.
