How Traditions Read This Prophecy
Apostolic (Oneness) PentecostalThe crucified One whose bones were not broken — as the Passover lamb (Exod. 12:46) — and whom 'they pierced' is the LORD of Zechariah 12:10, where YHWH says 'they shall look upon me whom they have pierced.' The pierced One and Jehovah are the same: 'God was manifest in the flesh' (1 Tim. 3:16); Christ is our Passover (1 Cor. 5:7).
JewishZech. 12:10 ('look upon me whom they pierced') is read of national mourning over the slain; a rabbinic tradition (b. Sukkah 52a) connects the mourning with Messiah ben Joseph, who is killed.
CatholicJohn presents Jesus as the true Paschal Lamb (unbroken bone) and the pierced One; the blood and water from His side are read sacramentally (cf. the Catechism).
ProtestantA double fulfillment — the Passover-lamb statute (Exod. 12:46; Num. 9:12) and the pierced one of Zech. 12:10 — supplying specific, evidential detail of the crucifixion.
