How Traditions Read This Prophecy
Apostolic (Oneness) PentecostalThe soldiers, unwilling to tear Jesus' seamless robe, cast lots for it — 'that the scripture might be fulfilled' (Ps. 22:18). Even pagan soldiers, ignorant of prophecy, enacted the very words written a millennium before. The crucified Lord is the One of whom David wrote; God's word stood, fulfilled in the Lord Jesus to the smallest detail.
JewishThe crucifixion account is not received in Jewish tradition; the underlying Psalm 22:18 describes a sufferer despoiled by his enemies.
