How Traditions Read This Prophecy
Apostolic (Oneness) PentecostalIn the day of restoration Israel will 'serve the LORD their God, and David their king, whom I will raise up unto them.' Not the historic David, but the Son of David, the Lord Jesus, raised up to reign (Luke 1:32-33; Ezek. 34:23-24). And note the pairing — to serve 'the LORD' and 'David their king' is to serve one Lord, for the Davidic King is Himself the LORD in flesh.
JewishThe breaking of the yoke of bondage and the raising up of a Davidic king to rule a restored Israel — a core messianic-restoration hope.
CatholicThe Davidic king raised up is Christ; Israel's service of the LORD and of David's Son united in Him.
