How Traditions Read This Prophecy
Apostolic (Oneness) PentecostalA coming deliverance so great that men will no longer swear by the exodus from Egypt, but by the LORD who 'brought up... the seed of the house of Israel out of the north country.' This 'second exodus' regathering (cf. Isa. 11:11-12) anticipates the day the LORD finally gathers and saves His people — the same God who led Israel from Egypt, revealed in the Lord Jesus, gathering His own from every land.
JewishThe promise of a future ingathering surpassing the exodus — God bringing Israel home from the north and all lands; a central hope of the regathering.
CatholicThe new and greater exodus fulfilled in part historically and ultimately in the gathering of God's people in Christ.
ProtestantA literal end-time regathering for dispensationalists; for others, a typological fulfillment in the gospel's gathering of the redeemed.
AcademicA 'new exodus' oracle (paralleled in Jer. 16:14-15) deliberately surpassing the founding exodus tradition; 'the north country' marks the Babylonian deportation route.
