How Traditions Read This Prophecy
Apostolic (Oneness) Pentecostal'The remnant of Israel... shall return unto the mighty God.' Through judgment God always preserves a remnant who lean on the LORD — fulfilled in part in the return from exile, and supremely in the remnant who believe in the Lord Jesus (Rom. 9:27; 11:5). 'The mighty God' (El Gibbor) to whom they return is the very title of the child born to us (Isa. 9:6) — the Lord Jesus, God in flesh.
JewishThe promise that a faithful remnant of Israel will survive judgment and return to God; a recurring prophetic theme of hope amid devastation.
CatholicThe faithful remnant returning to God, fulfilled in the believing remnant of Israel and the Church (Rom. 9-11).
ProtestantPaul cites this remnant promise (Rom. 9:27) of the believing remnant in Christ; the few who truly trust God, preserved through judgment.
