How Traditions Read This Prophecy
Apostolic (Oneness) PentecostalHebrews quotes Jeremiah 31's new covenant — God's law written on the heart, sins remembered no more — and declares it inaugurated in Christ (the blood of the new testament, Matt. 26:28). The one God who gave the old covenant gives the new, and gives it in the Lord Jesus; the promised forgiveness and indwelling are entered through Him (Acts 2:38).
JewishJeremiah 31:31-34 promises a new covenant with Israel and Judah — internalized Torah and full forgiveness; Judaism awaits its consummation, not in Jesus.
CatholicThe new covenant in Christ's blood, fulfilling Jeremiah; the old covenant now obsolete (Heb. 8:13), realized in the Eucharist and the Church (cf. the Catechism).
