How Traditions Read This Prophecy

Apostolic (Oneness) Pentecostal'In thee shall all families of the earth be blessed' — the Abrahamic promise of universal blessing. Paul calls this 'the gospel... preached before unto Abraham' (Gal. 3:8); the blessing comes to all nations in the one Seed, Christ (Gal. 3:16; Acts 3:25-26). The God who chose Abraham planned from the start to bless the world in the Lord Jesus.
JewishThe promise that the nations will be blessed through Abraham and his descendants; Israel's vocation to be a blessing to the world.
CatholicThe universal blessing of the nations fulfilled in Christ, the seed of Abraham, and extended through the Church (Gal. 3).
Protestant'The gospel preached beforehand to Abraham' (Gal. 3:8) — all nations blessed in Christ by faith.
AcademicA keynote of the Abrahamic promise; whether 'be blessed' is passive or reflexive ('bless themselves') is debated, but the universal scope is clear.
