13:15For all the land which thou seest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed for ever.
13:16And I will make thy seed as the dust of the earth: so that if a man can number the dust of the earth, then shall thy seed also be numbered.
13:17Arise, walk through the land in the length of it and in the breadth of it; for I will give it unto thee.

How Traditions Read This Prophecy
Apostolic (Oneness) PentecostalGod shows Abram the land in every direction and promises it to his seed 'for ever,' the offspring 'as the dust of the earth.' Israel inherited it (Josh. 21:43); the innumerable seed embraces all who are Abraham's by faith in Christ (Gal. 3:29; Rom. 4:16). God's word stands — to Israel literally, and to the church spiritually — converging on the Lord Jesus, the Seed in whom the families of the earth are blessed.
JewishThe expansive land grant and the promise of countless descendants; a cornerstone of the covenant and of Jewish identity.
CatholicThe land and seed promises fulfilled in stages, culminating in the multitude of believers and the heavenly inheritance in Christ.
ProtestantIsrael's literal possession, with the 'dust' seed widened to all the faithful (Rom. 4); dispensational and covenant readings differ on a future land restoration.
AcademicThe 'dust of the earth' simile (cf. stars, sand) is a recurring patriarchal promise-formula emphasizing innumerable progeny.
