“Thus saith the Lord GOD; Because the Philistines have dealt by revenge, and have taken vengeance with a despiteful heart.”
King James Version

Four neighbors who applauded the temple's destruction receive matched sentences: Ammon given to 'the men of the east,' Moab opened, Edom laid desolate, the Philistine remnant cut off — 'and they shall know that I am the LORD.'

Archaeological & Historical Evidence

All four nations are archaeologically extinct: Ammonite, Moabite, and Edomite material culture terminates in the Babylonian-Persian transition — their capitals (Rabbath-Ammon, Dibon, Bozrah) show occupation gaps, and Arab tribes ('men of the east') absorbed their lands exactly as 25:4 specifies. Philistine Ashkelon and Ekron were already rubble by 600 BC (Ekron's destruction layer excavated by Dothan & Gitin).

How Traditions Read This Prophecy

Apostolic (Oneness) PentecostalFourteen times in Ezekiel 25-32 the refrain lands: 'they shall know that I am the LORD.' Judgment's purpose is revelation — every fallen border-stone preached His name.
JewishThe nations who mocked the churban (destruction) answered for it within a generation — a staple of exilic consolation.
CatholicSchadenfreude at the fall of God's people is itself indicted — a warning to every age.
ProtestantFour distinct nations, four distinct fates, all four verifiably vanished — while the nation they mocked returned. The asymmetry is the evidence.
AcademicTransjordanian settlement archaeology (Bienkowski; Herr) documents the Iron II collapse and Arabization of Ammon, Moab, and Edom in just this period.

Scholarship & Sources
