How Traditions Read This Prophecy
JewishThe expectation of a prophet 'like Moses' was alive in Second Temple Judaism — the Qumran community expected an Eschatological Prophet alongside the Priestly and Royal Messiahs (1QS 9:11). The Samaritan woman (John 4) and the crowds (John 6:14) both identify Jesus as 'the Prophet.'
CatholicFulfilled in Christ — the ultimate prophet, priest, and king. Peter (Acts 3:22) and Stephen (Acts 7:37) explicitly apply this to Jesus.
ProtestantThe Prophet like Moses is Jesus — who mediates a new covenant, performs exodus signs, and speaks God's words directly.
