How Traditions Read This Prophecy
Apostolic (Oneness) Pentecostal'It pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell.' All the fulness of the Godhead dwells bodily in Christ (Col. 2:9) — not a portion, but the whole fulness of the one God. The reconciling of all things is by His cross. The Father was pleased to embody Himself fully in the Son; Jesus is not a fraction of deity but God in His fulness in flesh.
JewishThe language of God's 'fulness' draws on the Hebrew sense of God filling heaven and earth (Jer. 23:24); the indwelling of that fulness in a man is the Christian claim.
CatholicThe fulness of divinity dwelling in Christ and the cosmic reconciliation through His cross — a high-Christology, cosmic-redemption text.
