“Behold, the eyes of the Lord GOD are upon the sinful kingdom, and I will destroy it from off the face of the earth; saving that I will not utterly destroy the house of Jacob, saith the LORD.”

The sternest book in the prophets ends with a filter, not a furnace: 'I will destroy it from off the face of the earth; saving that I will not utterly destroy the house of Jacob… For, lo, I will sift the house of Israel among all nations, like as corn is sifted in a sieve, yet shall not the least grain fall upon the earth.' Dispersion with preservation — stated as one act.

How Traditions Read This Prophecy
Apostolic (Oneness) PentecostalThe sieve has run for twenty-seven centuries — through Assyria, Babylon, Rome, and every exile since — and the grain is still here. No other ancient people survived their scattering; the difference is a sentence in Amos.
JewishNezach Yisrael — the eternity of Israel: dispersed everywhere, dissolved nowhere; the verse is Jewish history's caption.
CatholicJudgment calibrated to preserve: the same providence that scatters counts the grains.
ProtestantA double prediction — worldwide dispersion AND indestructibility — either half alone would be bold; both together, sustained across millennia, is the standing public miracle.
AcademicAmos 9's ending (vv.11-15) is critically debated as a later addendum, but vv.8-10's sift-yet-spare tension is integral; James cites the following verses at the Jerusalem council (Acts 15:16-17 LXX).
