How Traditions Read This Prophecy
Apostolic (Oneness) PentecostalAt Pentecost Peter cites Psalm 16: 'thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.' David died and his tomb remained; he spoke as a prophet of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, whose flesh did not see corruption (v. 31). The risen Christ is the Holy One, God in flesh, whom death could not hold.
JewishPsalm 16 expresses David's trust that God will not abandon him to the grave; read of David's confidence in God's protection, not a resurrection of Messiah.
CatholicPeter's Pentecost proof that Psalm 16 prophesies Christ's resurrection (the incorrupt body); a foundation of the resurrection kerygma.
