How Traditions Read This Prophecy
Apostolic (Oneness) Pentecostal'Ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me.' The risen Lord promises the Spirit-empowering fulfilled at Pentecost (Acts 2). The same Jesus who ascended sends the Spirit (Acts 2:33) — His own Spirit — to indwell and empower His witnesses to the ends of the earth. The Spirit's coming is the Lord Himself coming in power upon His people.
JewishThe hope of God's Spirit poured out (Joel 2:28) and Israel as a witness to the nations (Isa. 43:10) stands in the background; the Christ-centered witness is the apostolic mission.
